Breaking point

Mello had tried his patience on many levels since he'd acquired him. He'd bit, kicked, punched, clawed,and every other means of vicious attack he could try in the time he'd had him. None of that had really bothered him. Hurt, yes, but aside from the lone groin shot it had never made him angry.

Having his warnings ignored, however, did. He'd been very kind to the man on this day. He'd coddled him, let him roam loose on the grounds, and even let him attack and play without much int he way of retaliation. However, there was a point when enough was enough and he was still a healthy male in his prime.

He'd been trying to control himself because he didn't want to break his pet, but his pet insisted on doing something deliberately after finding out it was arousing? No.

That was an invitation.

Thus, that led to this, him bringing him into a room he hadn't intended to use for a few weeks yet, if that soon, and him flipping the man off his shoulders to press him down, belly down, on a soft, padded mattress. There were other things in the room, but they were nicely closeted away. No, first he'd make the man feel him, then he'd move on to -training- him.

"I--" He had to think. He felt dizzy for no good reason, and he had to think about how to ask 'nicely' because it was such a rare word...

"Please," Mello managed, softly, still staring up at Sephiroth with wide eyes.

"See Mello? That's all you needed to say." He nudged the bowl closer. "You know how to be good."

It was harder for him than Sephiroth realized, Mello thought, but was soon distracted from sulking by the bowl he now dragged in front of him.

He didn't even bother with the remainder of his bun. He dipped the four fingers of his hand in and scooped out a dollop of chocolate straight into his mouth, licking it eagerly.

He sighed, glad he'd only melted a little bit, and he continued to stroke the blond's hair.

Most of it was gone with that scoop of his hand, and Mello picked up the bowl when he was done with that, licking the edges and sliding his fingers across the bottom to get as much as possible of the chocolate clinging to the bowl. It was clear that he wasn't giving it up until there was absolutely no more chocolate to be had.

He let him, amused but understanding. The man had said he liked it, he hadn't realized it was a comfort object as well.

Only when Mello was satisfied that he'd licked the bowl as clean as possible did he set it down, still licking his fingers even though they were clean. It was only then that he realized his hair was still being stroked. It was familiar by now, not something worth noticing anymore, so he'd paid it no mind. He lifted his head to look up at Sephiroth as if for more, though he said nothing.

He ran his fingers down his cheek. "No more for now. I don't think it would be good for you, I've not been giving you much sugar after all."

He was full now, and Sephiroth's phrasing left room for having some at another time, so Mello nodded. "Later?"

"If you're a good boy." He ran his fingers over his neck lightly.

"Stop saying that," he muttered, shivering from the way that feather-light brush was making his skin goosebump, strangely pleasantly.

"Mello, it's but the truth." He continued his gentle petting, reaching out to run his other hand lightly over his shoulder.

He tried to shrug the hand away. All the light brushes were making him shiver and twitch, like insects on his skin.

"I don't even know what you mean by that!"

"You'll learn. You're smart, you only have to pay attention."

"I don't want to pay attention." He hugged his knees again, dropping his forehead onto his forearms. "I want to go home..."

He quieted, then ran his fingers over his back. "What's waiting for you there?"

"Doesn't matter to you," Mello mumbled, voice muffled with the way he was burying his face in his knees. As if Sephiroth hadn't destroyed his life already. He wasn't going to give the man more fodder to torture him with.

"My sweet detective, just tell me. I ask because I want to know. What are you pining for?"

"And I don't answer because I don't want you to know. You see how this works?" he growled, suddenly defensive.

What he didn't want to admit to himself though were his doubts. After all... he'd been missing for so long. Someone should have come for him by now... right?

"I do." He tilted his head. "Do you not want me to know to protect someone or something else? Or because you're afraid it's no longer true?"

Perhaps it was a little bit of both... though Mello could barely imagine his lover needing protecting. But they hadn't been together very long, and it had been under somewhat strange circumstances. Mello had to wonder, despite himself, how much of his resources, money, and time his lover could spare looking for him before devoting them all back to work. He was a bit of a workaholic, really...

Mello stopped himself from thinking about it, not answering for a long time.

"I have a cat," he finally replied. It wasn't a lie.

He peered at him a long moment. "Cats can survive and survive well on their own. While they may care for people, they'll always find their own way."

His lover often called him catlike. He wasn't surviving too well on his own here though...

He sighed. "Doesn't mean I don't miss him, you cold bastard."

"I suppose it doesn't. Humans, after all, need companionship, and I've been denying you that."

Mello didn't say anything. They both knew it was true. And they were both aware of the effect it had on him, perhaps in different ways, but it was clear. For one, he was still curled up in a ball on his chair, head down.
