Breaking point

Mello had tried his patience on many levels since he'd acquired him. He'd bit, kicked, punched, clawed,and every other means of vicious attack he could try in the time he'd had him. None of that had really bothered him. Hurt, yes, but aside from the lone groin shot it had never made him angry.

Having his warnings ignored, however, did. He'd been very kind to the man on this day. He'd coddled him, let him roam loose on the grounds, and even let him attack and play without much int he way of retaliation. However, there was a point when enough was enough and he was still a healthy male in his prime.

He'd been trying to control himself because he didn't want to break his pet, but his pet insisted on doing something deliberately after finding out it was arousing? No.

That was an invitation.

Thus, that led to this, him bringing him into a room he hadn't intended to use for a few weeks yet, if that soon, and him flipping the man off his shoulders to press him down, belly down, on a soft, padded mattress. There were other things in the room, but they were nicely closeted away. No, first he'd make the man feel him, then he'd move on to -training- him.

He was full now, and Sephiroth's phrasing left room for having some at another time, so Mello nodded. "Later?"

"If you're a good boy." He ran his fingers over his neck lightly.

"Stop saying that," he muttered, shivering from the way that feather-light brush was making his skin goosebump, strangely pleasantly.

"Mello, it's but the truth." He continued his gentle petting, reaching out to run his other hand lightly over his shoulder.

He tried to shrug the hand away. All the light brushes were making him shiver and twitch, like insects on his skin.

"I don't even know what you mean by that!"

"You'll learn. You're smart, you only have to pay attention."

"I don't want to pay attention." He hugged his knees again, dropping his forehead onto his forearms. "I want to go home..."

He quieted, then ran his fingers over his back. "What's waiting for you there?"

"Doesn't matter to you," Mello mumbled, voice muffled with the way he was burying his face in his knees. As if Sephiroth hadn't destroyed his life already. He wasn't going to give the man more fodder to torture him with.

"My sweet detective, just tell me. I ask because I want to know. What are you pining for?"

"And I don't answer because I don't want you to know. You see how this works?" he growled, suddenly defensive.

What he didn't want to admit to himself though were his doubts. After all... he'd been missing for so long. Someone should have come for him by now... right?

"I do." He tilted his head. "Do you not want me to know to protect someone or something else? Or because you're afraid it's no longer true?"

Perhaps it was a little bit of both... though Mello could barely imagine his lover needing protecting. But they hadn't been together very long, and it had been under somewhat strange circumstances. Mello had to wonder, despite himself, how much of his resources, money, and time his lover could spare looking for him before devoting them all back to work. He was a bit of a workaholic, really...

Mello stopped himself from thinking about it, not answering for a long time.

"I have a cat," he finally replied. It wasn't a lie.

He peered at him a long moment. "Cats can survive and survive well on their own. While they may care for people, they'll always find their own way."

His lover often called him catlike. He wasn't surviving too well on his own here though...

He sighed. "Doesn't mean I don't miss him, you cold bastard."

"I suppose it doesn't. Humans, after all, need companionship, and I've been denying you that."

Mello didn't say anything. They both knew it was true. And they were both aware of the effect it had on him, perhaps in different ways, but it was clear. For one, he was still curled up in a ball on his chair, head down.

"If I'd thought you would have stopped fighting me so viciously any other way, I might have taken that instead."

That seemed to stir some life back into him and Mello lifted his head suddenly-- and lashed out just as viciously as he used to. "I haven't stopped fighting!" he insisted angrily.

He caught his wrist, then leaned to grab his other hand. "Listen to all the words I say."

"Let go of me!" He didn't care exactly what Sephiroth had said.

The problem was that he'd been right.

He yanked him out of his chair and into his arms. "Mello. It's alright." His voice was soft. "I don't want you to stop being you. Never that, understand?"

There was a soft yelp as he stumbled out of his chair, yanked forward by his wrists to practically fall into Sephiroth's arms. "I told you - that means I'll never stop fighting you. So just forget it!" he protested, pushing against his chest as hard as he could. Which wasn't particularly hard, considering he'd grown weaker being tied to a bed all day for God knew how long.

He tightened his arms. "You can fight. I don't mind that, and I'll prize it if you fight other people with your viciousness if they try to touch you." He nosed his cheek. "But why and over what you fight me must change, or you will never get any new freedoms or rewards, and I'll never have the chance to give them to you."

"I don't want to be here!" Mello insisted loudly, barely listening and suddenly incredibly upset. He squirmed in Sephiroth's arms, trying to strike him in any way he could. "Don't touch me! Let go! I need to go home!"
