Time of Transition

He made no move to return Mello to his room when morning came. In fact, a good week later there was still no move being made to that extent, and on that morning, when Mello woke it was to the now usual configuration of Sephiroth being wound around him, pinning his hands. This time, however, the act was accompanied by the silver haired man actually being asleep still.

Not to say they hadn't been spending all their time together, but Mello hadn't had the chance to see him asleep until then, him holding out for the blond to sleep and then rising before he could.

He gave him a positively delighted smile. "I did hope you'd say that."

That smile fucking creeped him out. Mello shook off the chill running down his spine and tried to buck him off again. "Why?"

"Because it didn't please you that my touch didn't appeal." It was a low murmur as he shifted to crawl up his body, kneeling over him.

"It didn't please me that you even tried," Mello pointed out coldly, and when he got more room, tried to get a leg up to knee, however awkwardly, the area between Sephiroth's legs suddenly.

He shifted a little to the side with no difficulty. "But it doesn't please you to have proven your point, nor does it please you that you can avoid responding to me, thus, you clearly desire that to be fixed."

"What are you talking about?" Mello growled, suddenly understanding-- and livid about it. "You're putting words in my mouth! That is not what I meant!"

"I asked you. Very clearly I asked you if you were pleased about -anything-. We even talked about it before I started touching you." He shook his head, hair falling around the man's face.

"Your definition of 'very clearly' is bullshit. Get off me." He spat, trying to get the hair out of his mouth as it was interfering with comfortable speech.

He laughed softly. "It's not my fault if you forgot the point of the exercise."

"I didn't forget anything," he snapped. "You didn't clarify that you didn't mean feeling good physically."

"It was your mistake to assume I ever meant physically."

Mello sighed, loud and exaggerated. "Fuck off." He was sick of these stupid word games, mind games, games all the time and feeling like Sephiroth was always leading him around by the nose from one embarrassment to another.

He hummed softly. "If I could trust you even a little bit, I'd give you a chance you wanted, but you'd go and hurt yourself."

"I'd prefer to hurt you, actually," Mello pointed out, not helping his case but sick of this pointless arguing.

"Yes that, I did mention letting you into my mind earlier but I'd have to be in a fit state to let you -out-."

"Why do you seem so eager to let me try to hurt you in the first place?" he muttered, truly curious.

"Maybe I miss it." He tilted his head.

Mello paused, finally deigning to look up at him since he'd been trying to ignore him until now.

"What?"

He leaned down, prepared to jerk away from a possible bite attempt. "I said, maybe I miss it."

"I heard you. I just never fucking understand you." Mello didn't actually try to bite him. There was no point.

He sighed then, genuinely sad about it. "I know."

"If it's understanding you want, you're not leaving a good impression to start earning it," Mello muttered, catching that genuine sadness. The guy was fucking nuts, and he wasn't even surprised by it anymore.

"I don't know how to do that." He wasn't going to be subtle about it. "That doesn't mean I don't miss it."

"If you're looking for pity, I'm the last person you'll get it from," Mello informed him in a suddenly quiet, very serious voice.

"Get off me."

He shook his head, then hummed. "Don't do anything you'll regret now."

The words were followed by mental touch, deep and demanding, scooping what made Mello -Mello- out away from his body, sending him reeling into Sephiroth's mind in a way having his own mental abilities would have prevented, and letting him tumble into the open chasm that was the antechamber of his thoughts. His voice was from a version of him, just in front of him, not in the clothes he was used to seeing but leather and hair loose. "Let's see how creative you can be."
