Time of Transition

He made no move to return Mello to his room when morning came. In fact, a good week later there was still no move being made to that extent, and on that morning, when Mello woke it was to the now usual configuration of Sephiroth being wound around him, pinning his hands. This time, however, the act was accompanied by the silver haired man actually being asleep still.

Not to say they hadn't been spending all their time together, but Mello hadn't had the chance to see him asleep until then, him holding out for the blond to sleep and then rising before he could.

Mello squirmed weakly before giving up, occasionally letting out little noises, sometimes of pain and sometimes almost erotic. He felt cloth wrapping around his shoulder, chest, then his face. It covered one eye, so he opened the other in some sense of vague curiosity to see what the world looked like only from his right eye.

When he was done, he climbed fully onto the bed and set the wraps and salves aside, cradling the blond against his chest and stroking his belly softly as he purred, watching him and trying to decide what needed doing.

It was easy enough to relax in Sephiroth's arms at the moment, so he did, enjoying the petting and the cool hands moving over his skin. He was still too warm, though his skin was cold to the touch, but he was so confused right now that it was nothing with all the random, opposing sensations he was feeling right then.

"It's going to take days and days until you are back to being to rights you know, and all because you had to yell at me." He shook his head, hair sliding forward to rest along Mello's undamaged shoulder.

He sort of understood the words, enough to know he was being admonished, and whimpered, curling closer and wincing as he did so. The change in tone was, for some reason, suddenly very upsetting. Mello trembled, gasping.

"Shhh shh. I don't think you'll do it again my detective, even you are not so foolish as that." He crooned softly, gently and firmly easing him back to a position that pulled less at the shoulder wounds.

Mello let him, collapsing into the position he was set in and still breathing raggedly.

He licked his lips again, opening and closing his mouth uselessly for a moment or two, before he finally managed to rasp, "W-wa... ter...?"

He nodded slightly, leaning to get a cup he'd collected while he'd been getting the bandaging so he could carefully tip it to his lips.

Mello half-opened his single visible eye, slowly sipping at the water. He didn't bother trying to support the cup on his own, letting Sephiroth hold it for him. When he was finished, he turned his head away.

He set it down, looking him over. "They're going to scar."

Staring at him blankly, Mello took a long moment before trying to speak.

"But...?"

Scar? The burns...? On his face and much of his upper left side, all of it? It didn't really compute, and he was still drifting in a haze between searing pain and pleasant warmth.

"I can't heal them perfectly. I can only entice the natural process and that leaves a scar." His voice was quiet. "I didn't intend to scar you, but you made me so -angry-."

Mello blinked at him uncomprehendingly for several seconds before, very quietly, murmuring, "...'m sorry."

He crooned softly at him and dipped his head to kiss his cheek. "You've already been punished, you don't need to apologize now. I made it so you don't feel the pain as pain for now, but it will hurt again after I heal more."

"Nn... feels--" He paused, nuzzling into the kiss and panting softly. "--funny. Warm. I..." He didn't know. Why was speaking so hard? Mello whimpered softly, but not in pain.

"I know. I healed a little, and I made it so you feel pain as a good thing, for now. I'll put that back later." He pressed more soft kisses over his face where the bandages weren't. "It would be much worse if I hadn't."

"Ah..." Mello closed his eyes again, tilting his face into the kisses, then trying to lick back suddenly, haphazardly. He felt vague and floating, and strangely good. He liked the closeness and the touch, wanted more of it.

He blinked, then turned his head to kiss his lips to keep him from squirming around. He had to be careful with him right now if he didn't want him injured further, after all.

Mello kissed him back for the first time since he'd been here, letting out a soft sound like a purr. He didn't even realize it was Sephiroth anymore, in all honesty, only concerned by the warmth and the affection.

That was fine, and he was gentle with him as he let the kiss linger and deepen, purring softly as he brushed his fingers up and down the uninjured parts of his chest lightly.

Mello moaned softly into his mouth, arching his chest into the touch slightly. The pain was strong, but it did not feel badly to him right now, quite the opposite. His eyelids fluttered, half open, and he lifted his tongue to meet Sephiroth's gently.

He carefully pressed him back down, firmly his touch to keep him from doing that again, sucking on the blond's tongue. While tempting, he would accept no more than kisses from Mello right now.

Mello seemed too distracted to mind, murmuring something incoherent against Sephiroth's lips, perhaps a name, that of his former lover.

He pulled off the kiss at that. "My name or none at all my detective, Sephiroth or none at all."

"Stop..." Mello mumbled, blinking up at him and looking wounded. "Naka--" He stopped, blinking tearfully, confused.
